Hello! I am Plamen Petrov and I greet you with a warm welcome in our studio for handmade string musical instruments “Aglaia Studio” LTD in the town of Kazanlak, Bulgaria!
I was born in 1974 in the town of Yambol on the 9th September 1974.
I studied violin making in “Academician Dechko Uzunov” National High School of Plastic Arts and Design in the town of Kazanlak during the period 1988-1993.
I acquired the Italian style, perfection and mastery, as well as my attitude to work directly from my teachers Edrio Edrev and Hristo Hristov – both graduates of A.Stradivari International College of violin making – Cremona, Italy.
After 1993 I continued making handmade violins, violas and cellos.
In 1996, together with my wife Valentina Petrova, we opened a studio for making master instruments in the town of Kazanlak.
In 2002-2003 I specialized in the details of the job at Antonio Stradivari International Violin Making School - Cremona, Italy with Maestro Ernesto Vaia.
Since 1999 I have been a member of the Regional Association of violin makers in the town of Kazanlak.
I have taken part in the annual National Exhibitions for violin making masters as well as in prestigious International competitions and exhibitions of musical instruments and I have always received high valuation the musical instruments, made by me.

Details of my work
A quarter of violin making art has already become an inseparable part of my life! I have made more than 250 instruments which are now in different places of the world – USA, Japan, Taiwan, Italy, Belgium, Austria, and Germany.
For me, the choice of material is of primary importance both for the acoustic qualities of the instrument as well as its aesthetic outlook, so I use wooden material, treated by the method of natural drying. In my work, I follow the classic methods and models of the Italian tradition in violin making and its world-famous representatives. I make models of Stradivari, Guarneri and other famous masters of the past, which seem to be the most often wanted violins as well as my own models, which I have developed during the years and these violins are the result of my experience and creative concept. In my studio there is also place for the youngest musicians. For them I make - 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, 7/8 instruments.
In the make of each instrument I try to achieve the perfect look of every detail as well as style and excellence – for me this is the essence of the violin maker’s job. Devotion and love! The polishing of the instruments helps me to mark my instruments with the sign of beauty and uniqueness. I believe that the qualities of the polish are an important factor for the quality of the sound and the protection of the instrument in the years to come. I use traditional primers, spirit-based varnishes, oil-based varnishes, essences, natural colouring agents and the most important of all – my instruments are polished by hand, with a brush! This is a slow process, which requires hard and diligent work, knowledge and skills. All this is part of the mastery, which you will receive with the musical instruments, hand-made in our studio.
It is my pleasure to have shared your time with me!
